About Us
I got started in the world of conformation shows in 2003 with Siberian Huskies. I started off with a black/white male named Leo (Myla's Leonardo Divinchi). He was a great but hard dog to start off with. Having a mind of his own, he taught me that it doesnt matter if you win, but just to have fun. Also at this time I met Melanie and Tom Kimball of Atlantis Whippets & Dobermans and their daughter Donica Taylor. None of us knew at the time, that they would be responsible for introducing me to my "heart breed" When I met them they had Dobermans, but their daughter Donica wanted to get a new breed. When she said that she was getting a "Whippet", I was like "A WHAT".. "OHH ONE OF THOSE SKINNY UGLY DOGS RIGHT??". After meeting Coco (Sportingfield Material Girl), I was a little less skeptical, but still wasnt sure if I liked them. Well not long after that Melanie decided that she liked the breed also and got Coco's sister, Phoebe (Sportingfield Zella Divine). With her wonderful personality it was hard not to fall in love with the breeds "charms". During this time I also brought a gray/white male Siberian home named Reno (Myla's It's All A Gamble) Once again, talk about learning how to be humble and roll with anything. I think Reno's outlook in life was to make me look silly. After Melanie brought Bang (Ch. Sportingfield Instant Carma JC) and Rebecca (Sportingfield Rockin Rebecca) home I was a "goner", but wouldnt get a Whippet for a while after that.
Even though I liked the Whippets also, I was still in love with the Siberians. Sometime in 2005 I brought home a wonderful little red/white ball of fur named Satine (Astoria's Moulin Rouge). I am still thankful to Jolie that she let me get her only little girl. She has been a treasure to live with. While it has taken her a while to mature, she has been a very fun little girl to have with her sweet, outgoing charm. I look forward to her future show career.
In late 2005, I finally converted to Whippets. Instead of just liking their personalities, I really started thinking that they were pretty dogs. I then started looking for a puppy. It wasnt long after that, that Joker (Sportingfield Reason To Believe) stepped into my life. Jokingly known as my "special needs dog", I have never had a dog that truly loves "me" as much as him.
My next Whippet was to come about 6 months after Joker. When Melanie told me that she was going to breed Phoebe (now known at CH. Sportingfield Zella Divine) to Rickey (Ch. Tattershall Rock On Ricochet JC), I was very happy and interested. There was a standout in the litter from about 4 weeks for me, but I didnt really fall for her until she decided to pick me. Later known as Diva (Atlantis Divine Diva at Sptfld JC), she was a little fireball. She always had to sit in my lap and didnt mind pushing any of the others out of her way. With her charming ways, you can see her mother in her. She has had a nice show career thus far, and we hope to really do well in the future.
In 2006, came Sir (Atlantis Knight N White Satin). A singleton puppy, Melly decided to let me have him and grow him out. He is a very fun puppy to have around and is very outgoing and silly. He has been shown very limitedly. He did not turn out show, but is living in a wonderful pet home in Washington. Our next hopeful, Ace (Atlantis BackNBlack At NiteSky) joined us in 2007. We have very high hopes for this gorgeous, silly black/white puppy. He holds a very special place in my heart b/c he is out of "my" Joker (Sportingfield Reason To Believe) and Olivia (Piper's Slim N Shady). Ace started out his show carerr with several RWD's (two of those to Majors). He finally broke the trend and got his first 2 pts on 5-11-08. In 2008 Joker (Sportingfield Reason To Believe) was bred to Coco (Sportingfield Material Girl) and I brought home a puppy out of that litter named Liv (Atlantis Livin OnA Prayer At NiteSky) I am looking forward to what the future holds for this sweet spitfire.
NiteSky Whippets is located in south Georgia.
